2025 Toyota Tundra vs. 2025 Ford F-150

How does Toyota Tundra fare against Ford F-150?

The full-size truck is one of the most popular vehicle types in America. Toyota Tundra has long held a reputation for durability and longevity and low cost of ownership. In fact, Tundra has received multiple awards from Kelley Blue book: it received the 2025 award for best resale value of any full-size truck, as well as the full-size truck with the lowest 5-year cost of ownership.

There are several strong contenders in the full-size truck segment, including the well-known Ford F-150. In this comparison we’ll look at how Toyota Tundra offers a stronger choice in half-ton pickups in capability and value. Let’s explore.

What engines do the Tundra and F-150 offer?

Tundra starts with a larger, more powerful engine standard compared to Ford F-150. The Tundra SR features a twin- turbo 3.4L V6 with 358 horsepower as its standard engine. Ford F-150 features a turbocharged 2.7L twin-turbo V6 engine as standard, producing 325 hp.

Toyota Tundra also offers the option of a hybrid powerplant that still maintains strong performance, with the i-FORCE MAX option. While Ford also offers a hybrid, Toyota Tundra edges ahead in power, with 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque vs. F-150 hybrid’s 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. Both get similar highway fuel economy estimates of 24 mpg.

Verdict: The Toyota Tundra offers excellent performance abilities, with more standard and available horsepower, more available torque, and a more powerful hybrid option.

What trucks give you more value for the money?

Tundra provides excellent value among large pickups as well. With extensive standard feature list, Tundra has much to offer at a competitive price. For example, it features standard SiriusXM® Satellite Radio and adaptive cruise control, which are optional on F-150. A Smart Key system with pushbutton start is a carlike convenience standard on Tundra as well, available on F-150.

Part of Tundra’s value for the money goes beyond just features however: Tundra features a standard Double Cab, allowing room for passengers or dry, lockable storage in the cab, with four swing-out doors. Base F-150s begin with a regular cab, and when moving up to an extended cab, F-150 starts at a higher base price than Tundra.

What safety ratings did the Toyota Tundra receive?

Value also comes from safety and peace of mind. Toyota excels here as well, as the Tundra was named a 2024 and 2025 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an award that F-150 did not receive. In fact, Tundra is the only Top Safety Pick+ among half-ton pickups. Part of this rating is underscored by the suite of standard safety features included in Toyota Safety Sense.

Verdict: The Toyota Tundra offers more popular build variety at a lower starting price and a better safety rating among popular large pickups.

Which full-size truck is the right choice for me?

While the Ford F-150 remains a popular large truck choice, the Toyota Tundra is gaining in the segment and it’s easy to see why. Tundra offers extra power, greater efficiency, more safety, and more value. Projected cost of ownership with Tundra is lower than any other large pickup. Part of Tundra’s value comes from ToyotaCare, which provides complimentary maintenance for 2 years/25,000 miles, a perk Ford doesn’t offer. With these lower expected ownership costs, it blends more of what truck buyers want in a value-packed workhorse.
